Adiana Designs was created by a 24-year-old designer who grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut, studied at Ohio State, and moved to New York City a little over a year ago to immerse herself in fashion. She’s been designing for as long as she can remember, but becoming aware of the amount of fabric waste within the industry changed the way she wanted to create. What started with upcycling Ohio State tees into new silhouettes eventually led her to denim—and to building Adiana Designs around giving existing garments another life.

One-of-one pieces created from unwanted clothing, with a major focus on denim. Thrifted jeans are cut apart, reconstructed, layered, and completely reimagined. Denim became a natural focus because it’s incredibly durable, yet there’s already such an enormous supply waiting to be reused.

Everything starts with sourcing. Old denim is cut apart and redesigned, sometimes keeping its original raw finish and other times being layered with thrifted fabrics to create new colors, prints, and textures. Because every thrift find is different, the materials themselves help determine what each piece becomes.

Her family is one of her biggest inspirations. Her mom is a successful fine artist, and with six younger siblings, she hopes to inspire them in the same way her mom has inspired her. Since moving to New York, the city and its creative community have become another huge part of why she keeps creating. Being surrounded by other female creatives reminds her why she started: because making something brings her joy, and hopefully wearing it brings someone else that same feeling.
